Understanding Your Notice of Assessment

A Notice of Assessment (NOA) is the document CRA sends after they process your income tax return. It shows whether you owe money, are getting a refund, or have a zero balance. Your NOA includes: your assessed taxable income, the tax you owe (or your refund amount), your RRSP deduction limit for the next year, and any carry-forward amounts. If CRA assessed your return differently from what you filed, they will note the changes on the NOA. You have the right to disagree and file a formal objection within 90 days. CRA sends your NOA by mail unless you signed up for online mail in My Account. Your NOA is an important document. It is always available in CRA My Account if you lose it.
