The Canada Child Benefit (CCB) is a monthly, tax-free payment from the federal government to help with the cost of raising children under 18. It is income-tested, meaning higher-income families receive less. CRA calculates your CCB based on the number and ages of your children, your family's net income from the previous year, and whether any children have a disability. CRA calculates CCB eligibility based on your tax return. Even if you had no income, you and your spouse must file tax returns each year. Families with children who qualify for the Disability Tax Credit may receive an additional monthly amount called the Child Disability Benefit (CDB). CCB is paid on the 20th of each month. CRA updates the amount each July based on your previous year's tax return.
